Notes I know I know. I was meant to upload a photo a day to continue this thing. I did draw two sketches for 12/03 and 13/03 - a page in a sketchbook. I just didn’t have the time to post it up. I’m sure all will understand.
Apologies for the quality - it’s me phone :/

Notes I’ve decided to start one of them “do one drawing a day” project. I’ve been wanting to develop a character design portfolio in a while so here it is. I’d like to believe that by doing a little every day one can achieve lots with time. Sketch No.1 today - 11.03.2013. Hope you enjoy it :)

  • Text The ARTHOREAL

The ARTHOREAL of the Cochua forest is the lonesome and territorial guardian of the Silvyan clearings. As much a plant as an animal it lives in seasons, in tune with its surroundings.

During Winter time it digs itself into its’ hibernation pit, coming out again only when Spring has arrived. Over the period of Spring and Summer its’ skin toughens to a bark like texture and his paws develop root claws. In Autumn his skin flakes and sheds, letting him know the time has come for him to use his fearsome talons to dig himself in for hibernation again. Finally, as he slumbers underground through the bleak winter his claws sprout into the earth. They grow up to reach the surface, emerging in time for Spring and blossoming into a flower.  This blooming reawakens him to begin his cycle anew.

The Arthoreal orchid is fabled for its healing powers and renowned for its scarcity. As it blooms and wakes the beast the roots detach from his paws, so he can begin to grow anew next years plant. However as this disconnection from the Arthoreal’s life-force occurs the plant begins to slowly wilt and must be plucked in a matter of hours if it is to have any medicinal purpose.  It must also be plucked quickly lest the unwitting gardner be caught by the ravenous arthoreal digging itself to the surface. Needless to say one is not advised to encounter the newly awoken up beast.
